I would like to replace (or enforce) current wood support beams with steel
beams in order to eliminate support poles in the basement before finishing the
basement. The widest span is 19 ft., which would eliminate two support poles.
Two other spans are approximately 13 ft. and would eliminate one support pole.
The house is two-story and about 3,000 sq. ft. Is this feasible? How do I go
about engineering for this? What are the risks?
